A Tribute to Navy’s Might

Members of the Eastern Naval Command mountaineering expedition atop Mt. Kun in the Zanskar Region
Two expeditions of the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy — a Multi-Component Expedition and a mountaineering expedition — along with two other Naval expeditions, was received at Rajpath in New Delhi on Sunday and the members felicitated by Chief of Naval Staff Robin Dhowan.
The mountaineering expedition to Mt. Kun (7,077 metres), the second highest peak of the Zanskar region of J&K, to commemorate the golden jubilee of the first successful Indian expedition of Mt. Everest, led by Lt. Cdr. S. Karthikeyan, was flagged off on August 20 from the ENC Headquarters by ENC Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Bimal Verma.
The eight-member expedition team comprised four officers, including a woman officer, and four sailors from the Eastern Naval Command.
The second expedition of the ENC was the MCE. It was flagged off by Vice Admiral Bimal Verma on September 4. It comprised three phases. The first phase was ‘ocean sailing on J-24 sail boat’ to Kakinada and back, the second a ‘motorcycle expedition’ to Agra, and the final one was a ‘cycling expedition’ from Agra to New Delhi, where the team joined the Commemorative Carnival at India Gate on Sunday.
The J-24 sail boat expedition skippered by Commodore Arvind Sharma covered a distance of 100 nautical miles and also charted the wreckage of PNS Ghazi, the Pakistani submarine that also participated in 1965 war on the West Coast and was later sunk by the Indian Navy off Visakhapatnam.
The motorcycle expedition led by Lieutenant Commander Ravindra Kumar covered 2,100 km over nine days, across six states and Union Territories.
The cycling expedition led by Commander Animesh Nagar covered a distance of 220 km.
The other events included a motorcycle expedition from the coast of Gujarat, the expedition from Dwarka to Delhi passing through Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Jaipur, covering an approximate distance of 1,500 km in six days, and the cycling expedition by adventure enthusiasts from Delhi Naval Area.

They embarked on a 10-day cycle expedition from Delhi to Wagah border and back covering a total distance of 1,000 km.
